Day 6 – Travel Day 1
Todays tally: 15,595 steps, 10.75km, 14 floors, 3 layers of clothing.
This morning was our last morning in Kyoto, and to be honest I’m missing it already! We’ve only travelled a 30 minute train ride away to Osaka, but it feels like another country! The scenery is very different. Instead of temples sticking out in the skyline, there’s only tall building after tall building. We had to check out at 11 from our Kyoto room, and check in at our Osaka room wasn’t until 3. So we dropped our bags off and headed down to explore Denden Town. There was a lot of places closed being still part of the NYE public holidays, but hopefully we will be able to experience the full Denden experience in the next few days. We did manage to find a little corner of Nerd Heaven though. There was anime building (I’d say shop, only it was 5 floors tall) for the boys, and me to a certain extent, and arcades with claw machines and games and ball prize machines everywhere – each with a different theme. So this could be a lot of fun! We now have a use for the million coins that Japan seems to keep giving us!
We did have to search for awhile for somewhere to eat for lunch though. There weren’t as many restaurants as there were in Kyoto (and no awesome curry place across the road either – we do have something called Kinka that we will be trying for dinner later tonight though). But we did find a little noodle place without a lick of english written anywhere. We sat there with google translate to work out what we were ordering. I ordered a pork something with sauce and rice, and Drew got essentially beef and oyster sauce. Both were delicious!
We then met up with a friend of Tim’s (originally from Sydney, now living Hong Kong) for a quick catch up before he headed back home. And with that we headed back to the hotel. I’m not going to sit here bitching and moaning about it, but let’s just say, I’m amazingly happy that we’re only staying here for 5 nights…
Bring on tomorrow where we explore more of local Osaka as well as the Aquarium (supposed to be the 3rd biggest in the world, only outdone by Atlanta and Dubai – should be very cool).
