Day 4 – My 22nd Birthday
So instead of whinging about everything, I’m here to finally write that we had an amazing day! We went to water sports in the morning, where we rode the donut. We held on for dear life and they went nuts on the boat and dragged us around! It was seriously the most terrifying thing I have ever experienced. I have no strength left in my arms! I got told I looked like hell after wards, and here I was thinking I could get away with just playing it cool. Then we went on the banana boat, which was a lot more tame than the donut. After that we went on a glass bottom boat tour, which was awesome! They have really pretty coral reefs here, and really strange looking fish, but they’re so pretty!!
Next we traveled to this island, aptly called turtle island, where they have a huge conservation effort going for these turtles. We met a wonderful woman named Anit, who took us around and was basically our personal tour guide. I got to hold the few month old turtles, they’re so heavy! And they had 10 day olds there, which are tiny!! But the best part of it was that we got to go into a pond with all the bigger ones who can’t be released for either health reasons, or they’re too tame, and and we got to feed them seaweed! I felt like the turtle whisperer, there was a huge group of Chinese tourists just watching me in the middle of the pond with a shit tonne of huge turtles around me all asking for food! It was amazing!! I also got to hold a snake, a bat, a toucan, and got a photo with is gorgeous white and grey eagle. I need to do something with animals as a living!! This trip has made me see that.
After that we went to Uluwatu temple, which has monkeys! They’re scary! They rush you for food and then steal your shoes. It was lucky I wore shoes that attached to my feet! It was right on the coast with a huge drop off down a cliff and had spectacular views. The waves are massive! We watched some surfers and then went to a restaurant called Potato Head for dinner and drinks. All in all it was a pretty amazing birthday.
Tomorrow we’re having a day of pretty much doing nothing. The only thing we have to do is change money. But on Thursday were going to the safari park and guess what I found out? Not only can I get a picture patting a huge tiger, I also get to hold a cub!! Can you believe that!? He I’m so excited. Also, they let you hold a baby orangutan, and we’re having an elephant ride. Thursday is going to be awesome! Eeeeeeee.. Today was fantastic! Bali has definitely got its claws in me, and I’m enjoying every minute of it!
