Day 1 – First Leg
385km travelled.
We need a weekend away! After what feels like an eternity since our last getaway, and a long week ending in a chaotic Friday, we started out first leg of our trip at 5pm, heading to Amy and Anthony’s place to pick up our travel buddies and start our journey towards Canberra.
The drive was pretty quiet honestly, spent chatting and listening to our eclectic collection of songs on our carpool playlist, with one stop after about an hour at Mrs Pho House in Seymour for dinner. We all ended up ordering the same thing, even without conferring about it, which happens way too often. Their pork vermicelli noodles salad was sublime! Perhaps the best I’ve had!
After filling our bellies and fighting food comas, we jumped in the car again to travel to our next pitstop in Glenrowan, to see where Ned Kelly made his final stand and was captured. It was quite dark by this point, but it made for some interesting photos! This little pocket of history was so cool to look at – the buildings being all heritage and original, with old barn doors and horse hitching posts out front. Looking up at the giant statue of Australia’s most renowned outlaw bushranger holding a gun with a backdrop of stars was a pretty surreal experience. The streets were empty, so it was so quiet which fostered an eerie feeling.
One last drive of about another hour and we pulled up at our little motel in Albury for the evening. We are all exhausted, so I think we’ve all dragged ourselves in, dropped our stuff, and fell into bed. Tomorrow will be an interesting day. We are headed to the National Zoo & Aquarium for a couple of pretty good behind-the-scenes experiences. I’m looking forward to this little getaway, jam packed with fun and curious things!
